The Head of Wes

Anyone who watched the Seahawks and Pats game must have wondered how Wes Welker could continue to play after taking two violent shots to his head. Neither one resulted in a penalty, but there could be a fine levied this week.

Welker's hits were helmet to helmet. It was tough watching his head move around the way it did. It was more shocking that it didn't knock him out of the game. I assume he spoke to a doctor on the sideline and was checked for a concussion. If he didn't suffer one then, it would be a miracle.

I think players and teams still have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy when it comes to head injuries. Players know they need to be out on the field. Steven Ridley had his helmet ripped off as he was being tackled on a play. His primary concern was keeping his hands on the ball. This was done at the expense of his unprotected head.

If Welker ever has neurological issues after his playing days are over, you could look at this game as a possible cause.
