Rex's Personal Choice

Rex Ryan has no problems making brash predictions that never hold up. It the past, he was willing to guarantee a win or a trip to the Super Bowl when prompted. He seem to tone it down a bit this year.

He must have felt foolish the other day when the Jets released FB John Connor, a 5th round pick in 2010. During that training camp, Rex boasted on HBO's "Hard Knocks" that Connor was his personal draft selection based on his hard blocking. The team already had 16 year veteran Tony Richardson, one of the best to play that position.

It didn't seem to matter to Rex. He did the unusual thing and kept Connor and Richardson on the roster for the 2010 season. It's very rare for a team to carry two fullbacks, but Rex does things out of the ordinary.

At the start of the 2011 season, Rex anointed Connor as the future and sent Richardson into retirement. The only problem was that Connor never played that well in the backfield, but he contributed on special teams.

Connor started the 2012 season with knee and hamstring problems. The Jets recently signed Lex Hilliard who spent a short time with the Pats before they released him. Last week, the Jets gave Connor an injury settlement which will allow him to sign with another team. The Jets could resign him after six weeks if another team doesn't grab him.
