Coughing It Up

You can't blame former Pats RB BenJarvis Green-Ellis for leaving the team and signing a lucrative free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. With the Pats, he was part of the running back group. Now, he has become the featured back with the Bengals.

The money is so much more than he would have been paid in New England. It's a different game for him now. Unfortunately, he has ended his streak of never fumbling the ball. He went through high school, four years of college and four seasons with the Pats without putting it on the ground in 510 NFL carries.

So far this season, he has turned it over three times on 82 carries. This type of ball security gets you a seat on the bench eventually. It's also a good way to get released at the end of the season and voiding his big contract. Fumbling the ball will end a running back's career as quickly as a knee injury.
