Big QB Trade

It was so crazy to hear of the Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford trade between the Chargers and Lions.

Detroit got two first round picks, but took on Goff's huge contract which will never see it's stated end because of the salary cap implications.

Guaranteed money is another story. It will be interesting to see how both contracts play out.

No Baby Goat

Tom Brady has said he doesn't like the title of GOAT. I think it's so lame. It was created by the media and fans jumped on it.

There is no doubt on the greatness of Brady. Patrick Mahomes has the world ahead of him if he can stay healthy.

The media said that if Mahomes wins, he will have two championships and be on pace with Brady at age 26.

I just wish some wouldn't call him Baby GOAT. That is beyond being lame. Nobody knows what type of career he will have.

Just let him play.

UMass 2021 Schedule

UMass released its schedule for 2021 and it's filled with tough opponents that they will probably lose to. We all know that.

My biggest question is not whether they can beat Boston College and UConn at home. Will the stadium be filled with fans?

In the time of Covid, it's hard to see where this is headed.

Jason Witten

It looks like the great TE Jason Witten has reached the end of the line at 38.

This will be his second retirement. His first one after the 2016 season happened when he wasn't ready as he had a broadcasting job waiting with ESPN.

He tried his best to be part of MNF, but it didn't work out. His desire to keep playing lead him back to the Cowboys in 2018.

After being released, he squeezed out two more seasons with the Raiders. He plans to sign a one day contract with the Cowboys and retire with them.

Gronk Wants Back

Rob Gronkowski will be a free agent after the end of the season. He said he wants to return in 2021 because he had so much fun this year.

Although he will be 32 in May, the team would be wise to bring him back as he was very productive.

Less Brady Talk

The worst thing about Tom Brady going back to the Super Bowl is listening to Boston sports talk radio.

I lasted about ten minutes today before changing the station. Callers have too many conspiracy theories about Brady, Belichick and the Krafts

It gets boring very fast.

Tom At Ten

So many story lines will come from Super Bowl LV. It's all about the players, coaches and supportive staff that got them to to the final game of the season.

Tom Brady is such a lucky man to play in ten Super Bowls. Who will ever do that again in my lifetime?

Sunday, January 24, 2021

Tom and Patrick

Super Bowl LV between the Pats and Chiefs has so many great story lines between the two teams. Tom Brady and  Patrick Mahomes will write their own story.

It's amazing to think that Brady will be playing in his 10th Super Bowl with a record of 6-3.

His career has been amazing, but the star of Patrick Mahomes is shining so brightly right now. How many years will he play? Nobody knows.

Is he part of the NFL ten years from now? What is the league like at that point?

Brady should go for the record of George Blanda who played until he was 48.

2020 Not Just Another year

As the league year winds down, so many players and coaches will never see the light of NFL 2021. Their careers are over. They just don't know it yet.

Younger players on the end of their contract get replaced by draftees and undrafted free agents who are paid less money.

Some coaches will bounce back to college. Others will wonder why the never got a job again.

The story gets repeated every year.

That Crazy 2020 Season

The games this weekend are some of the best ever with the old versus the future.

Four great quarterbacks of the game today.

The Super Bowl will have an older quarterback from the NFC and a younger one from the AFC.

Just A few Injuries For Drew

You can't blame Drew Brees if he never plays another game in the NFL after what he went through this season.

Covid presented so many issues for every team with practices, meetings and team building.

Drew's wife posted a loving statement about what he went through to play in 2020.

In his match against Tom Brady, he was dealing with a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder, as well a torn fascia in his foot. Can't forget the 11 fractured ribs and punctured lung that kept him out for so many games.

He kept them competitive in the team's 30-20 loss.

No Combine This Year

The NFL is kicking the can down the road when it comes to the draft and player evaluation. The Scouting Combine won't be happening.

Teams will need to rely of the school's pro days. It will be so different.

Evaluating talent is difficult enough in normal times.

Line Time

I wonder where the betting money is going for the AFC and NFC Championship games. The lines are so close.

Both quarterbacks in the AFC are banged up. Will that be an issue for their offense? Players are injured on both sides of the ball.

The Final Four - 2020 Season

The NFL has two great shows next weekend with the AFC and NFC Championship Games.

It has the old with Brady and Rodgers who have so many records and the young with Josh Allan and Patrick Mahomes. They are the future of the game.

It should be a great day, but you never know. Things happen that effect the outcome.

Will Brees Be Back?

Drew Brees was hoping to get one more chance at the Super Bowl, but it didn't happen. Tom Brady and the Bucs prevailed 30-20 and will face the Packers next Sunday in the NFL Championship game.

One can only imagine the thoughts running through his head as he walked off the field for perhaps the last time.

He holds so many NFL career passing records. It's either him or Brady being first or second in almost every category.

In his post-game press conference, he said he wanted time to think about his future,.

It must be a hard decision.

Rodgers To The Next Step

Aaron Rodgers lead the Packers to a 32-18 win over the Rams today to punch their ticket to the NFC Championship game.

Rodgers will get another chance to play for an opportunity to get to the big game. He has only been there once in his illustrious career, but had a win and MVP award in Super Bowl XLV against the Steelers.

Is Ben With 2021?

The Steelers and QB Ben Roethlisberger are at a cross-point in their relationship.

He didn't play great in the team's 48-37 playoff loss to the Browns, while throwing four interceptions.

His salary cap hit of  $41.25 million in 2021 is too much.

Offensive Coordinator Randy Fichtner was just fired. He was been with the team since 2007, coaching in some capacity. He became Ben's quarterback coach in 2010. They have a long relationship of working together.

The Steelers have a lot of tough decisions to make. Will Ben be part of it?

Meyer Joins The List

Urban Meyer has been hired as head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He will oversee all the football operations.

He is in a good position at this point, with a huge amount of salary cap space to work with. How will it work out for him?

Will he join the list of coaches who got full control of a program, but couldn't produce a winning record?

Mayo Time Soon

It's great to see former Pats LB and current Asst. Coach Jerod Mayo get an interview for the vacant Eagles job.

He has such a bright future ahead at 34. It's only a matter of time before he gets his chance.

It was a great day for him when they selected him #10 overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was such a great player for Bill Belichick.

Becoming a coach was inevitable for him.

Coaching Now, But Not Later

If Tom Brady had his way, he would play forever. As gifted as he is, time will eventually take him away from the game.

Coach Bruce Arians marvels how he is like a coach out there working with the young and veteran players. He doubted Brady would ever get into coaching because he is such a perfectionist.

It will be interesting to see what path he takes after he retires from the NFL.

Alabama Does It Again

Alabama is set to win their 7th college football championship under Coach Nick Saban. They always dominate the All-Americans team selections.

They have many players selected throughout the NFL draft, as well as those who sign as undrafted free agents.

Every player who takes this route has their own story.

Brady & Brees

The Saints defeated the Bears 21-9 in one of the Wild Card games to advance to next weekend's matchup with Tom Brady. It will be a battle between two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

Brady played in his 31st post-season game last night, while Brees had his 17th today.

Many feel that Brees will walk away after this season. Brady wants to play until he can no longer do it.

The Saints are an early favorite, but this will be a hard game for bettors as both teams know what's at stake.

Logan's Haul

Former Pats DB Logan Ryan didn't get much action in free agency after leaving the Titans.

He signed a one year/$5 million contract with the Giants and converted to safety.

It was the perfect fit for Ryan who just signed a three year/$31 million extension, with $20 million guaranteed.

He never would've made this money in Foxborough.

Frank Gore 16K

Jets RB Frank Gore missed the season finale against the Pats because of a lung injury.

During the previous week's game against the Browns, he passed 16,000 career rushing yards.

He might've been injured on that play as he never returned to the field.

At 37, it remains to be seen if he will play in 2021. He has been very durable in his 16 year career and needs 727 yards to pass Walter Payton for second place on the all-time list.

If he wants to play, there will be a team for him.

Browns & Steelers Will Play

Covid isn't going away during the playoffs as evidenced by the problem with the Browns who will play the Steelers on SNF.

The agreement between the league and NFLPA is to have a required minimum amount of players available by position. It was a great idea to have the roster expansion and increased practice squad. They should continue to do this.

The loss of key players has certainly impacted the betting.

Brady Returns Next Season

The hype machine will be going full throttle next season when Tom Brady returns to Foxborough with the Tampa Bay Bucs.

The date has not been announced yet, but he league released the 2021 schedule today.

The media will turn it into Brady vs Belichick.

Tuesday, January 5, 2021

Jackie's Son

I think all fans want to see Matthew Slater play one more season. He has not decided his future and wants to think about it with his family.

The fifth round draft pick in 2008 has been able to last thirteen seasons and have a nine Pro Bowl selections. He made his own path while being the son of Hall of Fame member Jackie Slater.

So many players never leave on their terms. You don't want to get cut.

End of the Pats 2020 Season

The season ended very abruptly for the Pats. Cam Newton wants to be here so badly for the right price, but it probably won't happen.

Coach Belichick stuck with him to the end. How much money does Cam want? You can't blame him if he signs with another team for a lot of money.

WFT Wins

The Washington Football team won the NFC East today with a 20-14 victory over the Eagles, much to the disappointment of Giant fans.

The schedule is lining up with some great games next weekend.

Saturday, January 2, 2021

Future Cam

QB Cam Newton really wants to stay with the Pats and wishes he had more practice time during a normal season.

Coach Belichick basically agreed with him. It might have been much different if they could've done more together in person. It was not a normal season for anyone.

Both parties want to be together, but at what price. How much is Cam really worth? He could get overpaid some place else, but it won't be here.

Friday, January 1, 2021

End of 11

The Boston sports media is implying that WR Julian Edelman has played his last game with the Pats. I have no doubt about that. It might be time for both parties to move on.

Edelman is 34 and recovering from knee surgery.  He could have a role with the team if he agrees to play for cheap money which is very unlikely.

Maybe he will have one last ride with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. That would be very fitting.
