The End For Ray

It came as a shock, but it almost was inevitable that Ravens LB Ray Lewis announced that he will retire at the end of the season. After 17 campaigns, the iconic Lewis is hanging it up at the age of 37. He suffered a torn tricep in Week 6. He finally was activated to the roster two weeks ago.

He always appeared indestructible on the filed. His hits were legendary. He took a great deal of punishment, but handed it out with reckless abandon.

He was the face of the Baltimore Ravens, as well as their heart and soul. His accomplishments are very lengthy. In five years, he will roll into the Hall of Fame.

The NFL has suffered a loss with the pending departure of Lewis, but as Coach Belichick often says: "Nobody plays this game forever."
