It remains to be seen whether the bizarre story of Notre Dame LB Manti Te'o will effect his standing in the upcoming NFL draft. Prior to his fake girlfriend story, he was seen as a top 20 pick in the first round.
Te'o continues to make conflicting statements about who knew what and when. Draft "experts" have already said his stock is dropping. If that's the case, his little caper will cost him a ton of money. He will leave money on the table for every spot he slips.
He had a poor game in the BCS Championship loss to Alabama. One game doesn't make a career, but he could have helped himself with a strong effort. Now, he is a media sensation for all the wrong reasons.
It might be unfair, but players with arrest records don't always get impacted in the draft as Te'o might. There was talk about him coming out early last year. In retrospect, it would have been a good idea because this will cost him money no matter what.
