The bottom portion of a team's NFL roster is composed of players fighting to stay in the league. The practice squad members are often used as fodder on the "scout team". For some, this will be as far as they get in their NFL career. They might get activated and play in a couple of games, but eventually, they get released.
The signing of WR Andre Holmes to the practice squad might be to imitate Houston's WR Andre Johnson. Both players are almost the same height (6'4") and weight. Holmes will be used on the scout team, but what is his future after Sunday?
Will they keep him around for the next game preparation or discard him because they no longer need him on the scout team? Such is life on the practice squad.
