Who Plays On Thursday Night In Baltimore?

The NFL is trying to flex its muscle over MLB for their opening night on Thursday, September 5th. The league wants to continue a tradition of the Super Bowl champions opening at home for the inaugural game of the season. The Pats are scheduled to open on the road against the Baltimore Ravens.

However, the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox also have an evening game at their ballpark which shares a parking lot with the stadium of the Ravens.

The NFL is reluctant to switch the game to the night before because it's the beginning of Rosh Hashanah. The NFL is trying to convince MLB to play an afternoon game, but the White Sox play a night game the day before they travel to Baltimore. Switching the time of the game would need the approval of the MLB Players Association.

In the end, it's about television revenue. The NFL will need to throw a bone to MLB to motivate them to switch the time. Nobody is doing anything without money. I think the MLBPA will fight this to the end unless they get something out of it.
