The Last Three Standing

Careers are much shorter in the NFL than in the other major sports. It doesn't surprise me to see that there are only three players left from the 2000 NFL draft. Those players will be entering their 15th season at the age of 36 or 37. Being over 30 is considered getting old by NFL standards.

Tom Brady leads the list, although he was the 199th player selected. Plaxico Burress has resigned with the Steelers, the team that selected him as the eighth pick overall. Center Brad Meester has signed on for another season with Jacksonville.

Their ranks might get smaller after training camp. Nobody is ever guaranteed a roster spot. Brady always sounds facetious when he talks about trying to make the roster, but his day will eventually come if he keeps playing.
