The Great Gonzalez

I'm glad to see that the great Tony Gonzalez will be back with the Atlanta Falcons for a 17th season. Gonzalez is perhaps the greatest tight end to ever play the game. His 13 Pro Bowl appearances and 1,242 receptions are a testimony to a future Hall of Fame career.

In spite of all the accolades and honors, Gonzalez has never made it to the Super Bowl. When the Falcons lost the NFC Championship game to the 49er's back in January, it marked the first appearance for Gonzalez in the Conference final.

Apparently, the hope of another great run gave Gonzalez the incentive to play for one more season. Last year was one of his typical stellar seasons with 107 receptions for 1,069 yards in 18 games, including the playoffs. He may never make it to the Super Bowl, but he has shown fans how the tight end position was meant to be played.
