QB Matt Hasselbeck is a great example of a salary cap casualty and a quarterback who is still in demand in spite of his age. The Tennessee Titans released him rather than have him count $7.5 million against their salary cap.
Hasselbeck spent the last two seasons with the Titans where he lead them to a 9-7 record. His starting job disappeared after they drafted Jake Locker in 2011, but he did a good job filling in when injuries struck.
Hasselbeck might be 37, but the 14 year veteran is expected to sign with the Indianapolis Colts to back-up Andrew Luck. There are always jobs available for someone who has 34,517 passing yards and 201 TD's. He should be able to squeeze a couple of more seasons out of his career while standing on the sidelines.
