Steelers & Harrison Divorce

When free agency starts on Tuesday, we will see just how much of a business the NFL really is. Veteran players have been jettisoned by their teams because of their salary cap implication.

The Pittsburgh Steelers parted ways with LB James Harrison after the player refused to take a 30% pay cut from his $6.57 million salary. He was given a chance to earn it back through various incentives, but Harrison decided to hit the open market.

He will probably get his money from some other team, but how much will be guaranteed? There seems to be less loyalty between team owners and players than in the past. Free agency and the salary cap has changed it all. The competitive balance in the league has benefited, but you rarely see a player spend his career with one team.
