Going Both Ways

Jets coach Rex Ryan said that he plans to use CB Antonio Cromartie as a wide receiver in the upcoming pre-season games. Cromartie has begged his coaches in the past to let him play on the other side of the ball. Ryan mentioned that Cromartie might feel differently once he gets hit by a safety.

I think it's a great idea. One of the problems with the NFL is that coaches are not creative enough. Too many players are specialists. Some defensive players only get on the field for certain passing or running situations. Even first round picks are not always viewed as four-down players.

Coach Belichick has allowed players to be on both sides of the ball for years. WR Troy Brown is the best example with his play at defensive back. Belichick has no problems using linemen as fullbacks. LB Mike Vrabel caught ten passes for 10TD's while playing tight end.

I hope Cromartie's debut works out well. It will be good for the game.
