The Choice of Younger Fans

I think the NFL Network has outstanding programming that keeps the interest of the fans, especially in the off-season. They recently ran a contest that allowed viewers to vote for the greatest play of all-time.

Contests like this are very subjective. Voters tend to give more emphasis to plays they have seen during their lifetime. This certainly seems to be the case in looking at the results.

I find it hard to believe that they voted for a game winning punt return by DeSean Jackson during the 2010 season. There is no doubt that it was a great play. Jackson returned the punt on the last play of the game to give the Eagles a come-back win over the Giants.

There are so many outstanding plays in the history of the NFL. It was very typical that fans would choose a recent play that was vivid in their  memory. What was the average age of the voters? Anyone under 50 would probably have no recollection of the Immaculate Reception by Franco Harris other than seeing it on NFL Films.
