Giving Him A Split

The Pats got a great deal for themselves when they re-signed WR Julian Edelman. Apparently, he didn't have much interest from other teams. He visited with the Giants before signing with the Pats.

They got him on a one year contract for the veteran minimum of $715,000. They got further insurance for themselves because of his history of injuries by using a "split" contract. If he goes on Injured Reserve, his contract drops to $383,000.

Edeleman is expected to get more snaps in the slot receiver position along with Danny Amendola. He now has a great deal of motivation to stay healthy and on the field. In his case, that should be quite a challenge.
