The Pats had 196 yards passing and 129 yards on the ground during their 28-10 pre-season win over the Atlanta Falcons. Those numbers looked really good until we heard post-game comments from Coach Belichick.
Fred Taylor had 54 yards on 11 carries which included a 28 yard TD run. Sammy Morris also had a 20 yard scamper.
Coach Belichick pointed out that seven carries went for minus yards. This needs to be addressed. This type of yardage is what kills a drive. A 3rd and 2 that doesn't get converted can change the outcome of a game.
Numbers like this often get overlooked in a win, but might be a contributing factor in a loss.
Coach Belichick is not big on statistical numbers. He once said a one yard carry can be the difference in a win or loss. It all depends when that yard occurs. It could be the pivotal point of the game.
I doubt that he ever plays fantasy football.
