Brady Untradeable?

Tom Brady does a weekly interview with a local sports talk radio station for which he is financially compensated. The questions are usually softballs. He gives the standard Belichick responses. The station makes an effort to ask probing questions because they owe it to their listeners.

Yesterday, they asked him about his contract situation. Brady pondered the issue of players spending their entire career with one team. That has always been one of his goals.

However, he brought up the trading of QB Joe Montana and WR Jerry Rice by the 49er's late in their careers. Both players were boyhood idols of Brady as he was growing up in the San Francisco area. He felt if they got traded it could happen to anyone, including himself.

He is 100% right. In addition to the lack of a Collective Bargaining Agreement, the age of Brady does not help his bargaining power. If he signs a five year extension, he will be 37 when it expires and the team will be without a quarterback.

Brady was not complaining about his contract. He was commenting on one of the harsh realities of the NFL. Players come and go. Nothing is guaranteed.
