Kicking The Tag

Very few teams have used the franchise tag on players because of the implications on the salary cap.  That has not stopped the New York Jets placing it on their kicker Nick Folk.

He will now count $3.556 million against their cap. It seems like a lot to pay considering the availability of kickers in the draft. He gets a big pay boost from his 2013 of $780,000, but is looking for a long term deal.

The Jets have until July 15th to work a new deal. In the worst case, he will get a big paycheck for 2014 and be at the same spot next year.
