Business Decision

The Pats have not reacted publicly to the demand by Vince Wilfork to be released. Will it happen this week or at all? Both sides are sitting tight.

I read a very insightful article about Will McGinest who went through a situation with the Pats after the 2004 season. He was not offered a contract after coming off the team's third Lombardi Trophy. He got a nice four year free agent contract in Cleveland. He was only with them for three seasons because the fourth year of the contract was too costly against the salary cap. His career ended after that.

Vince has a similar situation. I'm sure he wants to retire with the team. It was a given that he would, but not now. Willie felt the same, but it didn't happen. He discussed the emotional turmoil he went through after leaving the team. He talked about the harsh business realities of the NFL which are effecting Vince.

I wonder if Robert Kraft has any role in any part of this. It really is a business decision.
