The Crazy 90's

The NFL really tries to hold its players to a high level of personal conduct. There have been penalties for off the field behavior. The game can't be compared to what it was like 20 years ago.

Sports Illustrated did a great story on the 1990's Dallas Cowboys featuring Nate Newton. The players on that team, especially Michael Ervin, engaged in behavior that was way off the chart by today's standards.

Newton went to jail for 30 months on drug charges and Ervin eventually made it to the Hall of Fame in spite of it all.

By today's standards, they might have received a lifetime ban from the NFL.
