The Tale of Takeo

LB Takeo Spikes of the San Diego Chargers recently played his 201st game. He has lasted 14 years in the league after being drafted 13th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1998. He holds the distinction of leading the league in games played without ever making it to the playoffs.

It seems hard to imagine that a player of his caliber has never played in January other than in the Pro Bowl. He has also played for the Bills, Eagles and Lions before his current stop in San Diego.

He always ended up on a team with a losing record. The tale of Spikes is not unique. So many players never play in a "big" game. Careers are short. Not everyone makes the big money.Players get long term injuries.

Not everyone goes to the Super Bowl or a Conference Championship game. At times, the game is not that glamorous.
