Mayo out 6-8 Weeks

After being anointed the captain of the defense, LB Jerod Mayo sprained a ligament in his knee against the Bills and will miss 6-8 weeks. He will remain on the 53 man roster during that time. His loss will be felt big-time as he was seen as one of the keys to the defense. He also called the defensive signals. LB Gary Guyton will most likely fill that role. If the team looks for another linebacker, it will come at the expense of another position. It's a long time to tie up a roster spot, but the team is willing to wait for a player of Mayo's caliber to recover. If it were someone else, their season may have ended on IR.

It's a good reason to see why Coach Belichick is comfortable with having only two QB's on the roster. I think this will cause the team to go with Brian Hoyer as the only back-up for the foreseeable future. It's a risk the team needs to take. If Brady gets hurt again, the season changes for the worse.
