Peyton's Questionable Place

When Jim Caldwell of the Colts got fired today, he completed the elimination of the eight coaches who got jobs back in 2009. Three years seems to be the span of a coach if they don't get to the playoffs. Caldwell was another casualty of the ageing of Peyton Manning.

The window of opportunity is getter smaller for Manning. There is a question of whether he can pass a physical. He might not be ready in March.

Owner Jim Irsway needs to decide what he does with Manning. If he is on the roster in March, the cost will be prohibitive. It could be $28 million for a guy who might never play again.

Manning and the Colts need to come to a negotiated end. I think he should retire. He has a bad injury. He has had a great career, but the desire to play burns in him. So does the money.

The end of Manning's career in Indianapolis will be because of money. Will he end up with the Jets? I think so.

I always wonder if the same will happen to Tom Brady some day. Manning came on with this injury the last few years. It can happen to anyone. Brady wants to play until he is forty. We shall see.
