NFL players want long term financial security, but it's very elusive. Only a few players ever get all the money from their contract.

I'll never understand why players detest the franchise tag so much. It guarantees them a large payment for one season before they start the free agent process all over again.

Long term contracts are a joke in the league. They always get renegotiated or the player gets released.
