The Division 1 college bowl season begins next Saturday with the first of 38 games before the culmination with the BCS Championship Game.

With so many bowls, 76 teams get a shot of playing for better or worse. Penn State (6-6) will play Boston College (7-5) in the Pinstripe Bowl.

There are 128 Division 1 programs. UMass was one of 52 teams that didn't make it to a bowl. It seems like you can get to a game with a 7-5 record.

That should be the goal for UMass. The program needs to get better.
