With roster sizes set at 90 right now, there are a ton of players who won't have jobs once the season starts,
It happens every year, but the practice squad gives so many of them a chance to develop and make the team in some capacity.
The Pats have been so successful because they have been able to develop some talent from the squad. Every team tries to do the same.
