A Smaller Pool

NFL teams selected 259 players from a pool of 657 who applied to be in this year's draft. Close to the same number will be signed as undrafted free agents. They will be given a chance to make an impression on a team or get their name out there.

Every player will have their own story. Those who were not signed might never play another snap again in their lifetime.

Last year, a record of 1,932 opted for the draft. They were taking a chance by giving up their college eligibility to pursue their dream. It didn't work out for many.
