Expensive Bowls

The BCS controversy in college football is all about the money. Bowl officials don't want their games to lose any of their stature. The Rose Bowl has ensured that it will get a top billing annually because ESPN agreed to pay $80 million annually in broadcasting rights from 20165-2026. This is a 167% increase from their current payment of $30 million annually.

The proceeds from the game will continue to be split between the Pac 12 nad the Big 10 Conferences, except in those years where the game is for the national title. In that case, the BCS teams will get a share.

With so much money at stake, it's easy to see why teams violate NCAA regulations for recruitment and academics. It becomes wining at all cost. No wonder Penn Sate doesn't want anything to happen to its football program.
