Dropping Dollars
Players at the Scouting Combine know the stakes are high when it comes to draft position. Every time they drop, it means the loss of more dollars. It's very apparent in the first round.
Last year, QB Baker Mayfield was the overall first pick and ended up with a fully guaranteed contract of 4 years/$32.7 million. QB Lamar Jackson kept dropping in the first round until finally being selected 32nd by the Ravens. He signed for 4 years/$9.5 million, with a guarantee of $5 million.
In the end, some of the players at the Combine will never get drafted or ever play a down of football again. They just don't know it yet.
