Humoring Sanchez

It looks like the tenure of Rex Ryan with the New York Jets will live or die on the arm of rookie QB Geno Smith. Mark Sanchez appeared to win the battle in training camp until Ryan made a bad decision to use him in the fourth quarter of the final exhibition game. He ended up with a major shoulder injury.

Surgery was recommended, but Sanchez has decided to try and rehab it in order to return before the end of the season. He felt he won the competition for the starting job and wants a shot at regaining it. The Jets placed him on Injured Reserve with the option to bring him back after eight weeks.

This is a roll of the dice for the team and Sanchez. I don't think they have any plans to ever play him again. They are keeping him happy by letting him think that he has a shot to be the starter again. I don't think it will happen.

Rex Ryan is basing his coaching future on Geno Smith. This might seal his fate or bring him back next year. I think he is done in New York after this season.
