Not Pushing Papers

Former USC and NFL great Lynn Swann has been hired as the new athletic director at his former school. He beat out 200 candidates, in spite of having no administrative experience.

When schools make a hiring like this, do they really expect the candidate to sit behind a desk and perform the detailed work of a typical athletic director? Will he be more of a fund raiser and face of the athletic program?

I can't imagine Swann trying to work out the scheduling details for the school's softball team.
