A Time To Decline
The NFL coaching carousel is traveling at a dizzying speed. So many head coaches are now coordinators or position coaches. They might get another chance at the head job.
It's easy to see why Josh MacDaniels decided to stay with the Pats. After the season ended, he was offered the head job again with the Cleveland Browns, but he turned it down. He already went down once in flames as a head coach with Denver.
Nick Caserio was interviewed for the GM job in Miami. They interviewed eight candidates. After his interview, he removed himself from further consideration. I'm sure he wanted to get into a better situation where the team would succeed.
It's a good scenario when you have the option of turning down a job. Other coaches are not that lucky. Some end up where they do because it's the only option available.
